BackA Night of Art - Review

ON TUESDAY 16th of December, Ancoats Dispensary Trust hosted the ‘A Night of Art’ fundraising exhibition at Hallé St Michael’s, Ancoats. The event was a huge success, with our signed and framed Manchester City Football Club replica shirt proving extremely popular. There was also a considerable amount of interest in the huge collection of generously donated artwork on display. The amount raised on the night will help us in reaching our target of £55,000 by 28th of February 2015.

We are extremely pleased to announce that we raised a massive £1,764 in total, with the raffle raising £842! This is a magnificent achievement and we must express a huge thank you to all the artists who donated their work and to those who attended. Information regarding the lucky winning raffle tickets can be found here.

It was also an opportunity to introduce to the community our newly appointed Chief Executive who will take up her post early in the New Year, leading the Ancoats Dispensary Trust into the future.

Present at the exhibition were our Patrons June Rosen and actor John Henshaw - both June and John have personal experience of Ancoats Dispensary and so are always happy to support and encourage us in our efforts to save Ancoats Dispensary.

Amongst the attendees were our team from the ‘Creating Our Future Histories’ research project. Our team have established a commemorative blog, available to view here, where a new article will be posted every day for one hundred days in tandem with our Spacehive crowdfunding campaign. Their blog can also be seen on our website here. You can submit any artefacts relevant to Ancoats Dispensary for inclusion in the blog, such as photographs, by contacting ancoatsdispensary100@gmail.com.

Our exhibition also challenged perceptions of creativity as, amongst the artists exhibiting, were two people in their ninetieth year and each sold one of their paintings. Creativity is an inherent feature of upcoming events hosted by Ancoats Dispensary Trust – and this creativity will be reflected in the renovated Ancoats Dispensary. We aim to foster a creative spirit regardless of age and background because this generates personal well-being, and personal well-being was the cornerstone of the Ancoats Dispensary during its golden years.

We with to thank the members of Ancoats Dispensary Trust who worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was a success, and also the members of the public who attended the event on such a cold December evening. With Christmas just around the corner we appreciate that people have very little time and money spare, yet this didn’t prevent a fantastic turnout!

Finally, we would like to wish all of our supporters who share the Ancoats Dispensary vision a happy and peaceful Christmas. We anticipate an extremely busy 2015 for our cause, and so the festive period will be a brief and welcome rest for those who have worked extremely hard throughout this year.

Merry Christmas!
